31/10/2023   Covid-19 Drama Was Unforgettable

Earlier this month we presented the Brian Daniels play Unforgettable: Telling the Care Home Story to an audience of students, care providers and councillors.

The production portrayed the real-life events that unfolded during the Covid-19 pandemic. The play’s narrative came from interviews with residents, their families, and the care home staff who faced unprecedented challenges during the pandemic.

It highlighted the emotional burden of the care staff who had to comfort residents who could not be visited by their families. Unforgettable also showed the importance of being prepared and the proactive measures that are needed to handle similar situations in the future.

Following the play, a panel discussion addressed the challenges and lessons from the pandemic, focusing on positive changes like enhanced collaboration with NHS colleagues and increased recognition of care providers.

Students from the University of Lincoln, Lincoln College and Bishop Grosseteste University were invited to view the play. The discussion encouraged them to consider a career in social care, emphasising the role of supporting the NHS and highlighting how rewarding a career in care can be.

Feedback on the day was very positive and we are delighted to be increasing awareness about the importance of the work we do and the amazing workforce we employ.

The play has since been performed at the House of Commons for MPs and our Chair, Melanie Weatherley, was invited to participate in the post-performance panel.
